Initially, the team visited a local garden centre and chose seeds, trees and fruit bushes for the garden.
The photograph immediately below shows how the garden looked at the beginning of last year, and then those beneath this clearly show the results achieved from pure dedication and sheer hard work. Throughout the year the gardeners have successfully grown and harvested a huge variety of produce including sweet corn, broad beans, raspberries, strawberries, courgettes, leeks, onions, cabbage, garlic and tomatoes.
With the help of local volunteers, a new poly tunnel was erected and has been used to plant up hanging baskets and window boxes for the Full Moon Pub in Wells, these boxes won 2 gold 'In Bloom' awards.
The team have also set up a composting system where they reuse garden waste.
Everyone who works in the garden has a real sense of pride and ownership of the surroundings they have jointly created, they are encouraged to share knowledge and skills, learning from and teaching each other which all helps to provide opportunities for building relationships and developing new skills. The Healing Garden is a great place for staff, volunteers and clients to spend a lunch break and provides a safe haven to ponder and relax in.
We would love to show you around the Healing Garden! If you would like to come and see it for yourself, it is open to the public at various times throughout the year, we also welcome you to make an appointment by calling the office on 01749 670 667 should you wish to come at a different time.
